Compound and faced blocks. - Concrete building blocks 10 are faced on one or more sides during the moulding with a thick layer or sheet 11 of sugar cane fibre or like fibrous sticky material which unites with the plastic concrete and waterproofs it. The layer 11 may be placed at the bottom of the mould, or may be a continuous sheet extending all round the block; it serves as a pallet on which the moulded block may be removed, and may form the interior finish of a wall or be plastered, papered, or painted.
