321,399. Johnson, J. Y., (I. G. Farbenindustrie Akt.-Ges.). July 6, 1928. Fatty acids, purifying.-The crude fatty acids separated from the products of oxidation of solid paraffins are decolorized and otherwise purified by pressing or by sweating. For example, 1000 lb. of crude acids, M.P. 35-38‹ C., obtained by oxidizing hard paraffin wax and treating according to Specification 315,813, [Class 2 (iii), Dyes &c.], are packed in press cloths at 12-15‹ C. and submitted to 100 atmospheres pressure in a hydraulic press. About 450 lb. of dark coloured oil is removed, and 550 lb. of hard pale fatty acids, M.P. 45-48‹ C. remain.
