Abstract

320,874. Farnham, R. V. July 23, 1928. Continuous - discharge apparatus with stationary containers. - Cascading apparatus comprising a series of rotatable retarders A. B, such as described in Specifications 283,717 and 308,074, [both in Class 34 (ii), Drying systems &c.], are provided with a series of nozzles a', b<7> - - -along the length of each section of the apparatus so that injected liquid, gaseous or pulverulent media play over the whole of each retarder and on the cascading material which is introduced by a rotatable hopper G. The retarders, which may be staggered, preferably rotate in gas-tight association with one side a<3>, b<3> - - - of each section leaving a gas passage a<5>, b<5> - - on the other. Drying or other gases may pass through the apparatus in either direction. A modified form of retarder comprises a double sided tray of H-section. The apparatus may be used for spraying granite or other road-making material with tar. The Pro. visional Specification describes the manufacture of smokeless fuel by spraying tar or paraffin into the cascader.
