Mules &c.-In a nosing-motion the nosing-peg is carried by a bellcrank lever 33, 31 pivoted on the quadrant arm 32 and connected by :a chain 29 to a lever 25 one arm 26 .of which bears on a cam 23, whereby the reacting forces set up during the nosing motion are not transmitted to the shaper nut and screw, and, as the lever follows the movement of the cam, the device maintains its position relatively to the shaper nut and is re-set automatically at the beginning of a fresh set. The cam is operated from the shaper plate by a cross lever 11 connected through a link 15 to a pivoted member 17 carrying a quadrant 18 which rotates the cam 23 through gearing 19, 20, 21. The connecting-link 15 may move a sliding block against the sloping face of which the lever 25 rests, or the shaper plate may carry a rack which operates a pinion on the shaft of the cam 23.
