Abstract

320,758. Traver, H. G. Oct. 9, 1928. Roundabouts; railways and tracks for recreation, details of.-Amusement ride apparatus comprises a circular track 18, a central support 32 on which are pivoted radial sweep arms 31 supported by wheels 38 on the track 18, and tie rods 48, 49 connecting the sweeps and supporting passenger cars 67, the sweep wheels 38 being driven by electric motors M on the sweeps through chains 56. The track is also undulated. The track, Fig. 11, is built up of angle irons 21, 21<1> surmounted by a flat rail 22 on which the wheels 38 run. The central support comprises a base 30 carrying a vertical spindle 29 on which rotates a disc 32 to which the sweep arms are attached by brackets 33 having horizontal pins. The arms are pivoted on these pins so that in addition to heing carried round the track the sweep arms are free to swing vertically. Each sweep is composed of a braced structure 36, 37 and the car 67 has a circular seat 68 reached by steps 71; the car being mounted on the sweep-connecting links 48, 49 by leaf springs 72, 73, Fig. 7. Cables 60 for the motors M are carried through the hollow sweep arms and are connected to rotating currentdistributing brushes at the central support. The supports 52 for the motors M are attached to links 55 pivoted to the links 49, so as to relieve the sweep arms of the, stresses due to the motor torque. Brake shoes 80 on the cars 67 coact with a vertically movable brake beam 81 which is operated by levers 82, beam 84, links 87 and a manual lever 85 pivoted at 86.
