Abstract

320,650. Mellano, A. V. July 18, 1928. Air tubes and chambers; rims.-A wheel rim is provided with openings, grooves, &c. which are normally bridged by the wall of the air-chamber but provide spaces into which the latter may be distended to relieve the tyre from undue flexing or pressure. In the form shown in Figs. 1 and 2, the rim-base is formed with apertures A<1> into which portions C<1> of the air-tube C may expand under load or shock. The rim may be fitted with a band to impede or restrict such distension of the air-chamber; or the rim-seating portions of the air-tube may be thickened or otherwise reinforced. Fig. 6 shows a tubeless tyre in which the edges of the cover B are connected by a flexible strip E adapted to be distended into recesses A<1> in the rim.
