Abstract
320,183. Lee, S., and Stanley, G. Aug. 20, 1928. Rackets.-In a tennis or like racket having a groove f in the outer peripheral surface of the frame a to receive an inflatable tube e over which the gut or other strings d pass, rigid or inextensible segments g shaped to fit the tube are interposed between the tube and the strings. The segments are formed of light metal or other material and are positioned by grooves g<2> that receive the strings. The tube is provided at one end with a fitting for connection to a cycle or other pump and at the other end with means for coupling to a pressure gauge. The independent segments may be replaced by two or more bandlike segments shaped to conform to the longitudinal curvature of the tube, and the tube may be replaced by a plurality of tubes. The Provisional Specification describes a modification wherein the inflated tube is disposed between two wooden frames the outer of which is not connected to the handle but floats on the tube, and another modification in which the frame is constituted by the inflatable tube that is extended down the sides of the handle.
