Abstract

Reciprocating and oscillating machines.-A reciprocating motor comprises in combination (i) an electromagnet with a spring-controlled armature, (ii) a second spring-controlled armature with a flexible portion carrying one of a pair of contacts, and (iii) an operative connection between the two armatures to cause the second one to close the contacts when the first moves away from the magnet and to bend the flexible part of the second armature so as to open the contacts when the first one moves towards the magnet. The Figs'. show a form suitable for winding clocks or resetting an electric meter in which the poles 3 of an electromagnet 2 project above a platform 1 and attract the main armature 4, which is on an arm pivoted at 6 and is spring-controlled at 10, and a second armature 14 mounted on a springy arm 15. The arm 5 carries the driving pawl 7 and at its bent end 11 has stops 12, 13 between which is situated the end of the arm 15. This arm carries the movable contact 17 of the magnet coils, the other contact 18 being fixed. When the contacts have just opened, as shown, the spring 10 draws the armature 4 from the poles, bending the arm 15 until the contacts are closed. Both armatures are then drawn to the magnet and the stop 12 bends the arm 15 so as to open the circuit and the action is repeated thereafter.
