Abstract

319,463. Levy, A., and Levy, M., (trading as Soc. Electro-Technique AppliquÚe). Aug. 14, 1928. Charging and discharging batteries. - For supplying 'plate and filament current to a wireless receiver, accumulator cells to a total voltage approximating that of the supply mains A, B are arranged in series for charging. During discharge one group a is paralleled in five pairs to give four volts for the filament supply, whilst the remainder a<1> supply current at eighty volts to the plates of the valves. To equalize the rate of discharge a high resistance R is shunted across the terminals AB of the plate supply and is automatically switched in when the high-tension circuit is closed. A variable resistance mav also be inserted in series with the mains to regulate the rate of charging-current should the set have been out of use for some time, and have an abnormally-low back E.M.F.
