Abstract

827,380. Charging and discharging batteries; systems depending on two or more sources. TELEFUNKEN G.m.b.H. April 3, 1956 [March 31, 1955], No. 10073/56. Class 38 (4). A circuit for supplying the filament current of a radio receiver, or the like from either mains or battery, also for charging the latter, comprises a transformer T, rectifier G, smoothing capacitor C, resistor Rs, primary cell P, a second resistor R and accumulator A connected to the filaments F of the apparatus. Resistor R is of such a value to maintain a difference in potential between P and A, to enable P to be regenerated during charging. Filaments F are connected to the accumulator by switch 2, which is linked to a second switch 1 such that they open and close together. Switch 1 shortcircuits the resistor R. To operate the apparatus, switch combination 1, 2 is closed. If an A.C. supply is available, this may be fed into the transformer T simultaneously. To recharge the accumulator, switches 1, 2 are opened and supply is connected to the transformer. A similar arrangement can be used to supply H.T. using batteries of cells and accumulators. In a modified arrangement an additional resistor is connected across the accumulator during charging, forming a potential divider with resistor R.
