Abstract

318,779. Powell, A. D., and Bradbury & Sons, Ltd., J. Oct. 16, 1928. Drilling-machines.-In a machine for drilling the rivet holes in brake linings, clutch facings &c. wherein the drill is held against longitudinal movement and the drilling is performed by moving the work towards the drill, an indicator in alignment with the drill being also provided, the work is fed in to the drill by mechanical means. A platform H is guided in the base of the machine frame A and supported by a spring J. The countersinking drill C is mounted in a sleeve B driven by an electric motor, &c. and is secured in adjusted position by a collar D and clamping screw D1 engaging the flat C1. In alignment above the drill is an indicating rod G freely movable in an extension F of a plunger E mounted in an arm of the frame A and adapted to be depressed by a lever M, rod L and fast lever &c. K. The extension F is cut away on one side to clear the nut on the brake shoe. In operation, the rod G is engaged in a hole in the brake shoe and ensures the hole being drilled in the brake lining in exact coincidence therewith when the plunger is depressed; the depth of countersink is determined by the contacting faces O, O1 of the platform and frame, and may be varied by adjusting the drill in the sleeve B.
