Abstract

318,749. Monel-Weir, Ltd., and Ireland, J. Sept. 12, 1928. Tanks.-A removable water-tight partition for tanks which, when in place, involves no nuts or bolts submerged in the liquids and, when removed, leaves the interior of the tank free from projections, is formed with a groove along its two sides and bottom coacting with a groove in the sides and bottom of the tank, the resulting space being filled with an elastic packing member which forms a water-tight joint, screw members being provided to force the partition against the bottom of the tank and at the same time to pull the sides of the tank against the vertical edges of the partition. A tank e lined with sheet metal d has a groove n in its sides and bottom into which the lining d is pressed, coacting with a groove m in the partition a which may be made of two sheets of metal with joining pieces b, the space between the sheets being filled if desired with a non- conductor of heat, e.g. wool. The packing member c may be a tube into which water, air, or other fluid may be forced under pressure, the tube being of such cross-sectional shape that it readily fills the grooves. A swing bolt f pivoted to a bracket k on the side of the tank passes through a flange h on the top of the partition, a wing-bolt s and nut g being provided so that on tightening the bolt the partition is forced down on to the bottom of the tank and at the same time the sides of the tank are pulled inwards, pressure thus being exerted on the packing member throughout its length. Solid packing material may be employed if desired and the sides of the tank are preferably made to diverge upwards. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 312,646.
