318,336. Hungarian Rubber Goods Factory, Ltd., Kelemen, L., and Keteti, Z. June 29, 1928. Moulding indiarubber hollow-ware. - Inflatable rubber articles, e.g. toys, having projecting parts offset with respect to the median plane, comprise two side sheets of rubber of the outline of the article enclosing an insertion consisting of a single piece of indiarubber extending along a curvilinear line in the median plane. As shown, applied to a toy animal, an insertion a, Fig. 1, furnished with leg and ear portions c. d, e is cut from a sheet of unvulcanized rubber and the ends are joined to form a ring which is folded and applied to the inner edge b<2> of a ring- shaped die b, Fig. 2. The extended portions are pressed together at intervals to enclose cutting- edges b<1> after which two sheets f, g, Fig. 5, of indiarubber are applied and the article is completed in a press h. Fig. 6 shows the article. The cutting-edge b<1> may be of insufficient depth to sever the rubber completely and may comprise separate stamping and cutting portions. The seams may be further strengthened by doubling. Instead of cutting the insertion from sheet-rubber it may be formed by depositing a layer of unvulcanized rubber upon a former plate. To prevent adhesion of the insertion and' side sheets except at the edge, they may be dusted with a zinc or aluminium salt of a fatty acid or sprayed, printed, &c. with a mixture of glycerine and chalk or talc. Alternatively, paper stencils may be used.
