Abstract
318,159. Andrewes, H., and Dubilier Condenser Co. (1925), Ltd. March 28, 1928. Converting pulsating currents into steady continuous currents. - In means for supplying steady continuous current to the high tension and low tension circuits of radio receivers &c., the two smoothing chokes are wound on a common core and arranged so that the fluxes due to the D.C. components cancel each other, means being provided to ensure such phase relationship between the ripple components that the chokes are highly inductive as regards these components. In the arrangement according to Fig. 2, low tension current is supplied from an A.C. source through a transformer 4, full-wave rectifier 5 and choke 1. High tension current is supplied through a valve 6 supplied with filament current through a condenser 7 as described in Specification 297,520. The smoothing means for the high tension current comprises condensers 8, 9 and a choke 3 wound on the same core as the choke 1. A condenser 16 is provided in one or other of the supply circuits to obtain the required phase relationship between the ripple components of the currents flowing in the chokes 1, 3. Variable resistances 10, 11 are connected across the two sets of output terminals in order that the currents flowing in the two circuits may be adjusted to produce equal and opposite fluxes in the core of the chokes. A similar arrangement is employed in the case of a D.C. supply source, except that a series resistance is used in place of the transformer 4 for obtaining the required reduction in voltage for the low tension supply.
