Abstract

317,739. Broadmeyer, A., and Hickok Manufacturing Co., W. O. April 20, 1928. Pile tables for sheet-feeds. - In a sheet-feeding apparatus in which the sheets are fed to a conveyer 114 by a suction roller on a shaft 60, the sheets are fed from a pile 54 supported on a table 27 carried by chains 32 which are operated when the pile diminishes and are controlled so as to keep the pile at a level which can be adjusted. The chains 32 pass over sprockets on a shaft 30 connected by worm gearing to a shaft 36 which is rotated intermittently by a ratchet 37 operated by a pawl 39 on a freely mounted pawl carrier 38 provided with an arm 46 which is engaged by a detent 47 controlled by a finger 53 resting permanently on the pile, the connection between the detent 47 and finger 53 comprising an adjustable link 55 which enables the normal level of the pile to be determined. A lever 49 connects the link 55 to a shaft 50 on which is mounted a lever 51 carrying the finger 53. When the detent 47 permits, the pawl carrier 38 moves by gravity so that it moves over some of the ratchet teeth, and a crank 44 and slotted connecting-rod 43 return the carrier and so operate the pile-elevating ratchet. When the pile is restored, the detent 47 prevents movement of the ratchet and the rod 43 oscillates idly. The crank 44 is on the shaft 60 of the suction roller which is driven from the conveyer of the machine to which the sheet is fed. The table 27 is attached to bars 26 on movable sleeves 25 guided on standards 24. Sheet-separators. - The sheets are separated and fed in succession from the pile by a rotary suction separator of the construction described in Specification 316,173. Sheet-registering devices.-Side register of the sheets is effected by mechanism of the construction described in Specification 315,919.
