Abstract

317,665. Read, J. B., and Coolbaugh, M. r. Oct. 2, 1928. Roasting; sulphatizing. - Simple or complex sulphide ores, e.g. copper or zinc sulphides mixed with iron lead sulphides, are submitted to an oxidizing roast, the ores and the gases travelling in the same direction through the furnace thereby forming sulphates; towards the end of the roast, a predetermined amount of the same or another sulphide is added, so that a part of the sulphates already formed is tranfortaed into oxide, the temperature of the latter part of the reaction being from 550-700‹ C.
