Abstract

317,550. Gordon, S. B., May 25, 1928. Spring hinges.-The band H attached to the door or gate has an eye which engages a non-circular part of the hinge spindle B having a collar B<1> that bears on a bracket A<1> attached to the door frame or gate post, the upper and lower ends of the spindle being rotatably mounted in upper and lower bracket members and the spindle below the bracket member A<1> being attached to a coiled gateclosing spring enclosed by the upstanding flange D<1>. The spring in the spring-box may be duplicated, the springs being wound in opposite directions to close a door or gate opening in both directions. The collar B' is hexagonal in shape, whereby the spindle may be readily rotated to adjust the tension of the spring prior to the engagement of the band H with the spindle. The outer end of the closing- spring is attached to the back plate A by a pin G.
