Abstract
317,089. Akt.-Ges. C. P. Goerz Optische Anstalt. Aug. 10, 1928, [Convention date]. Locating sounds; detecting audible signals.- For determining the direction of incoming sound rays, sound reflectors in the form of surfaces of rotation are disposed around a central axis and sound impulse indicators are spaced at and around the foci of these surfaces so that by ascertaining which indicator is most affected, the direction associated with that indicator gives the required direction. The reflector surfaces may be spherical or paraboloidal as shown in Figs. 3 and 4, wherein the left side shows a horizontal axis and the right side an inclined axis for the reflectors, sound receivers M, M<1> being placed at and around the foci F. The microphones are connected first simultaneously and then successively to the current impulse indicator so as to determine the microphone showing maximum effect. The apparatus may be used for determining the direction of subaqueous signals. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 (3) (a) comprises also a modification, Fig. 5 (Cancelled), wherein the reflectors 8 are pivotally mounted on arms 7 secured-to tubes 6, the inclination of the reflectors being adjusted by rods 9. The sound receivers, such as microphones or telephones, may be placed in plates 10, five in each plate. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
