Yarns, treating with liquids.-Surfaces other than those of textile materials containing, or surfaces coated with, cellulose derivatives, are coated with a solution containing an artificial resin to protect them. The cellulose derivative may be cellulose nitrate, acetate, formate, butyrate, propionate, or methyl, ethyl or benzyl cellulose &c. The artificial resin 'used should be soluble and fusible, but should be near the insoluble and infusible state, which may be attained after application by the addition of catalysts, baking, exposure to ultra-violet light, sunlight &c. Suitable resins are phenol-aldehyde resins prepared in the presence of an alkaline or acid catalyst such as hydrochloric or phosphoric acid; diphenylol-propane-aldehyde or ketone resins such as may be prepared according to Specifications 299,065 and 299,066, [both in Class 2 (iii), Dyes &c.], the further condensation products of these resins such as diphenylol-propane-acetone-formaldehyde resins, as described in Specification 299,067, [Class 2 (iii), Dyes &c.] ; phenol or aniline-furfural resins as described in Specifications 307,290 and 307,291, [both in Class 2 (iii), Dyes &c.] ; or mixtures of these resins. The resin is dissolved in a solvent such as acetone or benzene, and pigments, dyes, other resins or gums, medium and/or high boiling solvents, and softeners such as diethyl or dibutyl phthalate, diethyl tartrate &c. may be added. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 (3) (a) describes also the application of the process to yarns. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
