Roundabouts.-In a mechanical toy of the kind comprising a tower or standard having a vertical spindle driven by twisted elastic and one or more radial arms from which miniature aeroplanes or other devices are suspended, the elastic material y, Fig. 1, is connected to the spindle j and to a second rotatable member w which is adapted to be actuated from a winding handle t through a link connection p, q. The tower, Fig. 1, consists of metal strips b, c, joined by circular metal rings e, g, h. To the top ring h are secured metal strips i, k, arranged to form bearings for the spindle j. A strip x fixed to the bottom ring e forms a bearing for the member wand the spindle s of the handle t. The miniature aeroplane m is suspended from a flexible radial arm l by a cord n which is attached to a flexible part z of the aeroplane. The aeroplane may be held by hand during the twisting of the rubber thread, or a stop, not shown, may arrest the movement of the arm l, or an anchoring and launching device may be employed. This consists of a base a<1>, Figs. 1 and 4, having arranged thereon a spring-wire frame b<1>. The front portions c<1> of the frame extend over the axle d<1> of the aeroplane wheels, and its rear portions h<1> engage the aeroplane elevators h<2>. The frame is attached to the base by rubber threads e<1> and is retained in position by a spring trigger i<1>, which when depressed allows the frame to launch the aeroplane.
