Block and sheet holders; carbon papers, arrangement of; holders or retainers for pens and pencils.-A memorandum appliance comprises a desk frame with means for retaining a pad or paper strip upon its surface, in combination with an index device comprising a box or frame formed at the head of the desk surface and containing a vertical series of index cards for recording telephone numbers &c. The surface of the desk may be provided. with a transverse metal strip 9 to engage a clip on the back of the pad 14; alternatively, or in addition, a paper roll 7 may be contained within a compartment 8 beneath the deck surface, or supported between the sides 4, and a strip 6 drawn therefrom through a slot and over the surface of the desk, beneath the metal strip 9 and a similar strip 10 at the bottom edge of the desk. The index extension 4<a> is of upright box-like form, with sides formed by extensions of the sides 4 of the desk. A spring 13 may be provided at the back of the box to press the cards 12 together, so that a card when elevated is retained in that position. Carbon copies may be obtained by providing two webs of paper and a carbon sheet which is hinged along one side of the desk and interposed between the webs. A pencil clip may be provided along an edge of the desk or suspended from a resilient vertical support mounted at the back of the card index in known manner. The top 3 of the desk is removable to provide access to the paper roll. A clip or clamp may be provided to secure the device to the pillar of a telephone.
