Abstract
315,019. Suberkrub, F. April 4, 1928. Divided on 302,103. Paddle wheels of the type provided with feathering floats and revolvable on a horizontal axis are provided below the water level with a horizontal cover plate through slots or gaps in which the floats pass down at the forward end and up again at the after end, means being provided for closing the slots after each float has passed. The cover plate may be connected with segmental vertical plates at both sides to prevent air penetrating. The cover plate g is formed in three sections, the central section g<2> being supported by arms secured to a wheel r on the shaft q, the planetary wheels s co-operating with a second sun wheel for this purpose. The outer sections g<1>, g<3> are suspended on vertical arms h which are normally pressed by springs k so a& to close the gap, whilst ridges o in contact with cam surfaces on the disc m are utilized to push these sections outwardly when a paddle or float is passing through. On the outer edges of the plate g<2> are fixed vertical segmental plates v. The horizontal cover plate sections may be arranged so as to act as guides for the water passing through the floats. The feathering gear for the floats is identical with that described in Specification 302,103.
