Fibres, treating; yarns and threads, treating with liquids. - Products termed mixed alkacylalkoxyalkacyl derivatives of cellulose, i.e. products in which a part of the hydroxy groups of the cellulose molecule is substituted by one or more simple aliphatic acid radicals and a part or the whole of the remaining hydroxy groups by one or more alkoxy aliphatic acid radicals, are obtained by treating fibres made of or containing cotton or other cellulosic material with appropriate reagents, particularly with the corresponding acid anhydrides, under conditions such that the alkacyl-alkoxyalkacyl derivative produced does not go into solution. The acylations may be conducted in suspension in non-solvent liquid diluents or, according to the Provisional Specification, the vapours of the anhydrides may be used in the absence of liquid diluents. Suitable acylation conditions and catalysts are mentioned. Materials made of or containing the alkacylalkoxyalkacyl derivatives may be loaded as described in Specification 314,918 in connection with the simple alkoxyalkacyl derivatives. The Provisional Specification states that materials containing the alkacyl-alkoxyalkacyl derivatives may be subjected to local or other delustering and relustering treatments similarly to cellulose acetate.
