Abstract
314,388. Lacrotte, N. June 26, 1928, [Convention date]. Collision - guards. - A bumper or shock-absorber for motor vehicles comprises a transverse metal bar preferably of channel shape between the walls f of which are disposed a number of buffering elements a each provided with a cavity c, which may either be open at the rear or wholly enclosed, the forward portions of the elements projecting beyond the walls f of the transverse bar. The bar and buffering elements are then covered by a strip of canvas or like material g and finally by an outer rubber envelope h, the edges of which are connected together at the rear of the bar f, and held in place by T-shaped bars i adopted to support the bumper on the vehicle. In shape the buffering elements may be of trapezoidal section both tranversely and longitudinally as shown in Figs. 2 and 3, or they may be formed from tubular elements j, Fig. 6, closed by flat-ended caps k, or from moulded members j<1>, Fig. 7, each open at one end to receive a projection k<1> at the opposite end of an adjacent member. When the buffering elements are of cylindrical form, the bar f is preferably of semi-circular cross-section. The support for connecting each T-shaped bar i to the vehicle frame m comprises two telescopic tubes n, q enclosing hollow rubber buffers o, o<1>.
