Gas cooking-stoves; ovens; baffles.-To prevent smothering of the burners in a gas oven, a baffle plate is arranged above them, having an upwardlydirected opening 9 above the burner and a surface 10 extending downwardly from the opening to direct the burnt gases away from the flames. The baffles, in the constructions described, are formed in frame-like base members supporting the oven walls: in the form shown in the Figs. the base member 3 wholly supports the oven and outer walls of the stove. It comprises a rectangular frame with flanges 4 for supporting the stove on a stand, upstanding ribs 5 forming a channel for receiving the side and rear walls, a large central opening 8, an operture or slot 9 at each side above the burners, which direct the flames upwards through the slots, and the downwardlyinclined guiding surfaces 10. The rear member of the frame is formed as an arch 13 to provide an outlet 12 beneath it leading to a flue in the rear wall. Supplementary flue outlets 15 are formed in the rear flange 4 of the base member. In a modification, only the inner oven walls are supported on the base member, the outer walls extending below it to take the place of the flange 4, and the baffles 10 are of stepped formation. The arch 13 is not provided, the flue outlet being formed by a recess in the rear edge of the base member. In a further modification, the baffles are formed as part of cylindrical members of which the upper portion, which contains the slot, is separate from the base frame, to which it is secured. In this construction the base frame is three-sided, the. front member being omitted.
