Lawn-mowers.-A machine for operating hand shears mechanically comprises a wheeled frame or truck carrying the shears with one blade fixed with its cutting edge facing the direction of forward movement of the machine and the other blade oscillated by mechanism driven by a crank or other means supported on a handle controlling the movement of the machine. The three-sided frame is mounted on two rear wheels d, d<1> and on a front wheel d2 which is adjustable vertically and angularly. The handle h is detachably and. adjustably secured in bracket h<1>. The pivot nut of the shears fits into a boss or socket on the lower end of an upright rod or pillar i adjustably supported on a bracket i. The lower blade k is fixed in the positon shown, the usual handle being removed or cut off short and the blade shank or handle stump being gripped by a clamp l. A bracket on the short side c of the frame carries a plate m<0> to engage the rear edge of the blade k near its tip, two jaws being attached by a screw m<4> to the plate m<0> to grip the blade. An adapter or short handle may replace the usual handle. The movable blade k<1> is operated by a crank arm n mounted on the rod j and carrying a slotted eye or fork n<1> engaging with the shank or handle of the blade. The arm n is connected by an arm n<2> and a swivelling or universal joint o<1> to an adjustable connecting-rod o universally jointed to a pivoted bellcrank lever which is rocked by means of a rod g a cranked shaft r, and a crank handle r<1>. In a modification gearing is introduced between the crank handle r<1> and the cranked shaft r to increase the driving speed. The crank may be coupled direct to the movable blade by a reciprocating rod. A removable' grass-collecting tray t and an inclined guide plate m<2> are mounted behind the fixed blade k. The various parts are detachably and adjustably connected to the frame and the shears may be detached for use independently.
