Igniters combined with cigarette delivery apparatus; lighting cigars and the like by electric devices.-In a cigarette delivery and lighting apparatus of the kind in which cigarettes are delivered one at a time from a magazine to a support where the cigarette is ignited by suction and ignition means, both the delivery device and the lighting device are suction-actuated and are connected to the suction means through a multi-way valve, the movement of which causes the required operations to be performed in their proper order. In the form shown, particularly for use on motor vehicles, the initial movement of a valve 35 places a cylinder 18 into communication with the induction pipe of the engine or other suction source through passages 38, 39 and a spring- pressed piston 17 is operated to rotate a grooved roller 6 for delivering a cigarette from a magazine 3 to hooks 12. The roller 6 may be actuated by a crank 13 and a connecting rod 16 or by a rack and pinion. Further movement of the valve 35 places a cylinder 25 into communication with the passage 39 and a spring-pressed suction head 29 presses the cigarette into contact with an electric igniter 20, which is moved against the action of a spring 22 to bring contacts 23, 24 into engagement and thereby close the igniter circuit. In this position, the suction head 29 is in communication with the suction source through the passages 32, 34. The valve may be returned to the initial position by means of a spring. An inclined guide may be provided in the magazine.
