Boxes combined with igniting appliances; contents, delivering.-In a cigarette delivery and igniting apparatus of the kind comprising a magazine from which the cigarettes are delivered one at a time to a bracket where the cigarette is lit by suction and' ignition means, the parts are actuated by reciprocating means which, during its forward or working stroke, causes the delivery of a cigarette and the subsequent operation of the suction and ignition means. As shown, the cigarettes are arranged in two columns separated by a partition 9 in a magazine 8 pivoted on a shaft 7 in a casing 2 so that the magazine may be swung outwards for loading purposes. The bottom of the magazine is enclosed by the grooved delivery roller 16 mounted on the shaft 7 and by which the cigarettes are removed one at a time from the magazine and dropped on to the arms 18 of the bracket, the shaft 7 being rotated by the depression of a reciprocating rack 22 engaging a pinion 21 on the shaft; a spring effects the return movement of the rack, pinion and roller. As the rack is depressed a stud 43 thereon engages a lever 39 pivoted to the rack guide 24 and connected at its opposite end to a slidable suction head 37 which is thus moved to engage one end of the cigarette on the arms 18 and push its other end into engagement with an electrical resistance 45. The movement of the head 37 causes a port 38 therein to be put into communication with a source of vacuum and the head engages a contact 48 to complete a circuit through the resistance 45 which thus becomes incandescent and ignites the cigarette. The parts of the apparatus may be retained in the operating position by a spring latch 51 which engages and holds the rack in the depressed position, until released by the finger. The apparatus is particularly adapted for use on the dashboard of a motor car, the casing of the suction head being connected by a tube 32 and flexible hose with the intake manifold of the motor and the resistance 45 being connected by a lead 46 with the battery of the car.
