Pocket igniters.-In apparatus in which the heat generated by the rapid compression of air in a cylinder by means of a plunger is employed for the ignition of a wick or tinder, an adjustable spring-pressed valve 26 is arranged at the bottom of the cylinder 22 and is lifted by a projection 35 on the plunger 33, when the plunger 33 is forced downwards, so that an aperture 28 is uncovered and the compressed air, escaping through the aperture, ignites the wick or tinder 32 on the outside of the cylinder.
