Stuffing - boxes, substitutes for.-The liquid sealed gland for the shaft 2 of a rotary compressor &c. 1 is supplied with pressure liquid through the pipe 4, some of the liquid flowing into the chamber 6 but is prevented from flowing into the machine by keeping the chamber 9 at a higher.pressure than the chamber 6 by connecting the chamber 9 through pipe 10 to a point. of higher pressure in the compressor than the pipe 12 which connects with the chamber 6. The full lines 10 and 12 show the connections in front of and behind the rotor wheel of a rotary compressor, the dotted lines indicating the connections of 10 and 12 in front of and behind a set of guide blades of the compressor.
