Abstract

312,595. Curti, E. Feb. 28, 1928. Percussive tools.-The striker 10 is actuated by compressed air supplied from a compressor A in uni-directional impulses under the control of a rotary reciprocating valve 5 which reciprocates in phase with the compressor piston 1, aided by a spring 6, and is caused to rotate by a screw thread 20 on the spindle 17 of a ratchet wheel 18. The valve 5 is hollow and divided by a partition 11. In its left-hand position air is admitted above the striker 10 through one of the ports 7 and in its right-hand position air is admitted below the striker through a port 13, whilst the space above the striker is opened to exhaust ports 16 by way of ports 12, 15. Relief ports 21 for excess air are provided, as well as a vent in the air pipe C if desired. In a modified device (not shown) the upstroke of the striker is .effected by a spring, and the valve 5 is replaced by a slide valve.
