Moulds for type-bar-making machines.-Typebars adapted to produce a wide spacing between the printed lines are cast at their ends with projecting spacing-ribs D, Fig. 1, located beyond the ends of the line of characters, so that the typebars, when assembled, are spaced apart, as shown in Fig. 3. The assembled bars are locked against relative endwise movement by the engagement of the ribs D on each bar with notches E formed in the adjacent bar. The ribs D are formed by grooves L<2>, Fig. 4, in one part, preferably the cap portion L, of the mould, and the notches E are formed by tongues M<2>, N<2> on the liners M, N. The blank portions at the ends of the typebar, that carry the ribs D, may be formed by means of blank matrices or quads, assembled at the beginning and end of the line, but are preferably formed by the vice-jaws, which overlap the ends of the mould-slot, and contact, as usual, with the end character-matrices of the line. The right-hand liner M is cut back, so that the mouldslot terminates behind the right-hand vice-jaw. In order to keep the mould of standard length, the left-hand liner N is extended by the same amount, and the left-hand vice-jaw is set farther to the right, so as to overlap the liner.
