Alternating - current induction machines; rotary converters and transformers. - A n arrangement for starting and synchronizing an electrical machine cascaded with a synchronous machine, for example a motor-converter, is characterized by dissymmetrical connections between selected phase windings of a cascaded rotor having uniformly spaced windings and the starting slip-rings to which the synchronizing means are connected, the phase member of the rotor windings being a number prime to three, e.g. five, serven, eight or ten. Fig. 2. shows the application to the asynchronous element of a motor-converter in which the rotor R is wound for ten phases 1 - - 10. The tappings to the slip-rings b are brought out from the phases 1, 4 and 7. They might, alternatively, be made to phases 1, 4 and 8 to give another asymmetric arrangement. The system of tapping may be employed with any external arrangement of synchronizing resistances Rt or reactances. Specifications 7135/12, 5481/13, 15875/13; 218,912, [Class 38 (iv), Electric supply and transmission systems &c.], and 263,940 are referred to.
