Abstract
311,746. Thrissell Engineering Co., Ltd., (formerly Brecknell, Munro, & Rogers, Ltd.), and Dolman, H. J. Jan. 12, 1928. Coin action, multiple-coin; returning coin.-In coin-freed apparatus operated by a plurality oi coins, a detent is provided to retain the first inserted coin in a shoot in a position opposite a return opening which is blocked by an obturator, the obturator being removable, if desired, from its blocking position to return said coin, but, if the coin is not returned, the insertion of the last coin turns the detent to allow the retained coin to pass onward, whereupon the operation of the apparatus is effected or permitted. As applied to an apparatus, which is freed by the insertion of a shilling and two pennies, the shilling inserted in a shoot 1 rests on the nose 12, Fig. 1, of a detent 10 pivoted at 11 and projecting into the shoot, the tail 13 of the detent projecting into a shoot 2 for pennies. The shilling in its descent engages the tail 17 of a second detent 14 and withdraws its nose 16 from the shoot 2. The shilling rests on the detent 10 opposite a return opening blocked by an obturator 20 carried by a lever 18 pivoted at 19. The pennies can now pass down the shoot 2. If a penny is inserted before a shilling, it will be defected by the nose 16 of the second detent into a return shoot 8, Fig. 4. The first penny strikes the arm 29 of an inverted Y member 25 pivoted at 26 in the shoot 2 and is deflected thereby into a passage 9 leading to the shoot outlet 7, the member 25 being at the same time set to allow the second penny to pass straight through to the outlet 7. The second penny resets the switch member 25 and strikes the tail 13 of the detent 10 to release the shilling and allow it to pass through the shoot 1. Should the purchaser not have sufficient pennies, after the insertion. of a shilling, he presses a button connected with the end 24 of an arm 23 of the obturator 20 which is thereby withdrawn to allow the shilling to pass. through the return shoot. The obturator may be actuated by an attempt to move the delivery mechanism. When two coins only are used, the member 25 is dispensed with.
