Abstract

311,725. Hansen, C. J., (Assignee of Koppers Akt.-Ges., H.). May 15, 1928, [Convention date]. Ammonia; ammonium sulphide and carbonates. -Thiocyanates are decomposed by heating under pressure with water at temperatures of 200-350‹ C. or by blowing steam superheated to 200‹ C. through the solution. Ammonium thiocyanate is decomposed to form ammonia, sulphuretted hydrogen and carbon dioxide, and the products may be cooled to recover ammonia or may be treated with lime to obtain a solution of ammonium sulphide. If the spent liquor resulting from the scrubbing of coal gas be treated the products may be added to the scrubbing liquor. Alkaline earth thiocyanates yield insoluble carbonates and ammonium sulphide solution. Iron or zinc thiocyanates yield ammonium carbonate and the metal sulphide, which in the case of iron sulphide may be added to the regenerating apparatus of an iron thionate gas purification plant. Specification 309,116 is referred to.
