Abstract

311,449. Franklin, C. S. Feb. 11, 1928. Aerials; directive signalling. - For directive transmission or reception of energy embracing a narrow band of frequencies as distinct from a definite wave-length, a plurality of multi-conductor aerial or reflector units are used each characterized by having a ratio of inductance to radiation-resistance less than that of a single conductor. In Figs. 2 and 3, a series of aerials A of the kind described in Specification 242,342 are backed by grids or cages R, R1 forming reflector units having the above-mentioned characterstic. Each unit may be insulated from the one above or below, or they may be connected in series through non-radiating induction coils. Such reflectors cut off back-radiation for a given wavelength, and also function efficiently over a band of frequencies. Similar multi-conductor units may also be used for aerials A so that they will accept energy from the feeders over a wider range of frequencies within specified limits, than a similar aerial array made up of single wire elements. Specification 281,762 also is referred to.
