Abstract

311,161. Blythe, G. E. K., Hider, G. E., and Buell Combustion Co., Ltd. Aug. 31. 1928. Nozzles for producing whirling sprays; nozzles with regulable orifices; strainers, arrangement of. -A tubular sleeve a has mounted therein means such as a helically grooved plug k for giving a whirl to liquid passing therethrough and an annular divergent passage m through which the liquid is discharged, the passage being reduced in width towards the discharge end. The plug k may be screwed into a perforated diaphragm d, Fig. 1, and have a diverging conical deflector j formed integral with it. A gauze cylinder or other filter may be mounted in an extension q, Fig. 4, of the cylinder a. Fig. 4 shows a form in which the deflector j is mounted on a rod q<1> screwed at its upper end by which the width of the discharge passage mav be varied, helical grooves being formed on the inside of the sleeve a. For spraying corrosive liquids the deflector j and block h, Fig. 5, are formed of mon-corrosive material such as porcelain or vulcunite and positioned in a non- corrosive tube a by a stud y engaging a metal nut w attached to a flanged portion x of the deflecting member.
