Abstract

310,732. Weber, O. Aug. 18, 1928. Plants, supporting.- An appliance for fastening the stem of a tree to a stake consists of a wire or other link having a flat metal strap detachably or permanently connected to it, one or more sharp points being provided on or near the link. A piece of tubular fabric 4 is passed over the strap 1 to protect the tree. The link 2 may be rectangular with the strap 1 secured on it by a rivet. The points 3 may be struck up from the strap or formed on a separate meta.l piece fixed on it. The end of the strap passed through the. link may be pointed and bent back at right angles. The points are pressed into the stake 5 and the strap passed round the tree 6 and secured by passing its end through the link and bending it back. A movable locking-ring may be provided. A Z- shaped piece, Fig. 8, may be used instead of the link 2, the ends forming points 3<d>. This allows two straps to be fixed at different heights as in Fig. 9. One strap leaves each end of the Z and is passed round the tree 6 and returned to the same end, as shown. For use wtih one strap the Z-piece may be bent so that the two points 3<d> are nearer together. The flat Z-piece arranged as shown may bend to accommodate the growth of the tree. A U-shaped stirrup with pointed ends may be used with a single strap passed round the tree like each strap in Fig. 9.
