Alarms operated by expansion of liquids or solids. - A push - button type of switch for use in an electric circuit and modified to serve as a fire-alarm, comprises a base 3<b>, a support 3<c>, and a casing 2. A heat-sensitive device, such as a capsule 4, is connected at one side to a push button 6, and at the other to a ptuuger 12 sliding through a disc 11 and held outwardly by a spring 12a. The tension of the spring 12<a>, and consequently the temperature at which the alarm operates, is adjusted by adjusting the disc 11 within the support 3<c>. In a modification, the button 6 is enclosed within a part ot the casing 2, and is adjustable by means of a screw with a pointer movable over a scale.
