Fats and fatty oils, extracting. - In a continuous process for digesting animal matters such as carcases, slaughterhouse refuse &c., with steam or solvent-vapour under pressure, the materials are fed through an orifice c into a perforated cylindrical or conical drum b, mounted in a chamber a, and rotated by a shaft g. The whole of the solid and liquid products pass through the perforations of the drum b continuously and is promptly separated into liquid and solid products by a fine mesh screening' or like surface d to avoid hydrolysis of the glueyielding constituents, such as occurs when the products pass to settling or decantation vessels subject to the working temperature and pressure. The liquid materials pass through an outlet f, and a worm w conveys the solid material to a discharge e. In a modification the screening surface d is formed by a perforated cylinder in a separate chamber. The liquid and solids are discharged from the outlet e into the cylinder, the solids being finally removed from within this cylinder by a worm conveyer. The residue may be pressed and worked up to yield glue.
