310,432. Summers & Sons, Ltd., J., and Pagdin, J. H. Oct. 26, 1927. Packing metal sheets; bale-tie fasteners. - Relates to the packing of steel or other metallic plates or sheets. In order to form a package, a number of steel bands a, Fig. 4, each with a slotted plate b to act subsequently as a fastener, are laid out at suitable distances apart. A sheet d, which may be of similar material to that which is to be enclosed, is next laid on the bands, and over this two more sheets e are laid with the ends abutting. A number of plates f are next laid down in overlapping relation as shown, and a pile g, Fig. 6, of the plates to be endorsed is placed in position. The sheets e are folded over as shown and corner pieces h are placed in position. The sheets f are now folded over on to the top of the pile and are covered with a sheet i, Fig. 12, similar to the sheet d. The bands a are secured round the package as shown in Fig 11, each end after being passed through a slot c in the corresponding plate b is secured by a clip j. A longitudinal band l may be applied and secured to the transverse bands a by clips m applied in pairs or formed of cross-shaped metal plates. When the package is unpacked, the covering material may be applied to the same uses as the contents.
