Abstract

310,114. Bayley, J. Sept. 3, 1928. Motor-vehicle head lamps; lantern screens. - A transparent or translucent screen 1 interposed between the light source 3 and the reflector 2 is pivotal about an axis parallel to the longitudinal axis of the reflector so as to be movable from its normal position above the light source into interposed positions on either side. The arcuate screen 1 tapered in width rearwardly is fixed to a spindle 5 rotatable in a bearing 6 integral with or fixed to the reflector 2, the spindle carrying at its rear end an arm 7 connected by Bowden wire 11 to a control on the dashboard. A clip 8 grips the lamp socket 9 and the bearing 6, and a spring 10 connecting the arm 7 to the clip 8 returns the, screen to normal position. The arms 7 of two head lamps may be connected by a wire or rod so that the screens are operable in unison from a single control.
