Abstract
309,923. I. G. Farbenindustrie Akt.- Ges. April 17, 1928, [Convention date]. Void [Published under Sect. 91 of the Acts]. Unsaturated fatty acids or esters thereof, con. taining at least one sulphonic group directly linked to a carbon atom, which are used for preventing the precipitation of insoluble compounds from hard water in washing, dyeing and other processes for the treatment of textiles, are obtained by treating unsaturated fatty acids or their esters with sulphur trioxide or oleum, advantageously in the presence of a diluent such as trichlorethylene and the lower fatty acids or their anhydrides (c.f. Specification 296,999). According to examples, products are obtained (1) by treating castor oil with fuming sulphuric acid in the presence of acetic acid and acetic anhydride : (2) by treating castor oil or oleic acid with fuming sulphuric acid in the presence of trichlorethylene. In a further example, the product of the sulphonation, with oleum, of diricinoleic acid in the presence of carbon tetrachloride is added to a saturated solution of gypsum.
