Fluid-pressure. - For applying two brakes or series of brakes equally or differentially such as the wheel brakes of an aeroplane, a universallymounted lever acts upon the pistons of two fluidpressure transmission systems connected to the brakes. Two cylinders 1, 2 have flexible bags 10, 11 secured as shown to pistons 6, 7 having skirts 8, 9 around which the bags fold as the pistons are moved inwards to deliver fluid through tubular necks 12, 13 on the bags. The pistons are connected to tubular rods 3, 4 moving through a guide-plate 18 which has set-screws 22, 23 extending through slots 20, 21 in the rods to prevent them from rotating. A crosshead 34 having forked slotted ends to embrace the rods 3, 4 and engage pins 39, 40 therein is pivoted to a block 42 secured to a guide-rod 24 sliding in the guideplate 18 and the cover-plate of the cylinders. The cross-head is connected by a flexible steel plate 31 to a socket engaging a ball 29 on the end of a lever 26 ball jointed at 27 to a bracket 25 on the cylinder casting. Fore and aft movement of the lever consequently displaces both pistons equally in the same direction but lateral movement displaces the pistons in opposite directions. The block 42 may slide on a fixed guide instead of being fixed to a moving guide as shown. The flexible bags may be replaced by clamped diaphragms, or fluid-tight pistons fitting the cylinders may be used. Brakes as described in Specification 302,385 are referred to. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 296,798.
