Gear-cutting. - In globoidal worm and wheel gearing, the wheel is formed with teeth profiles a of spherical curvature by the rotation on its axis, which is inclined to the plane of the paper, of a milling or abrasive cutter d with cutting- faces of circular profile; the blank remains stationary and the tool is fed in radially. T h e globidal worm c is produced by a hollow rotating cutter e with its cutting-face e<1> spherical to represent a tooth of the worm-wheel, the cutter and worm blank having generating motions similar to those of the wheel and worm to be produced.
