Sock and stocking suspenders.-In suspenders of the type comprising a clip at one end of a band carrying at its other end a hook, securely or removably fixed and engaging an intermediate part of the band, the hook is provided with friction means to engage the band. The hook 1, preferably of metal, may have a spring strip 2, Fig 3, secured to the hook at one end and provided with an integral or attached knob, stud, or lug 2b as a finger grip. The flexibility of the strip may be increased by a spring 3. The strip may be roughened or fluted and cranked or elbowed, and it may be quadrangular or triangular, with square, curved, or beaded edges. The band R may be elastic and have transverse ribs on both faces. The strip may be secured to the hook at one side, Fig 7. The strip may be engaged by a stud 4, Fig 13, sliding in a slot which may taper or have notched edges to permit a progressive locking. The strip may also be engaged by a plunger 5, Fig 16, which may have means to limit the throw at any position. The hook itself may be flexible and used without the strip, and have opposite or staggered flutings 1d, Fig 17, or inwardly-directed edges 1e, Fig 20, to engage the band frictionally. One or more knobs may be provided on the hook to increase the security of its retention.
