Abstract

309,027. Pelton, G. E. April 3, 1928, [Convention date]. Ink ribbons.-An ink ribbon or sheet adapted to yield ink uniformly until exhausted and to effect sharp impressions consists of absorbent material, for instance closely woven spun-silk or cotton fabric, felt, or paper, charged with ink and provided on the rear side with a coating that is permeable by ink but prevents excessive flow. The permeable coating may consist of cellulosic composition and may comprise viscose, pyroxilin, or celluloid with or without gums or resins. The coating is applied in one or more layers and is dried or baked, preferably in an oven or by rollers. In charging the material, the ink may be forced through the coating into the material. A further coating of gum, glue, or paste may be applied over the permeable coating. To prevent clogging of the types, the front side of the ribbon or sheet may be provided with a permeable or other coating, or with a cover which is attached at one or bothedges and preferably consists of celluloid or the like or of fabric impregnated with a mixture, of acetone and amyl acetate. A single thickness 14, Fig. 3, of material, after being coated and charged with ink, may be doubled and have the meeting edges 18 sewn together at the side or middle. Pad inking-arrangements. - The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 (3) (a) describes the application of the invention to ink pads, consisting of an absorbent base coated in the above-described manner. This subjectmatter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
