Abstract

308,310. Dehottay, H. March 21, 1928, [Convention date]. Freezing the ground; foundations.-In sinking shafts or forming foundations &c. in water-bearing soil, the soil is frozen by the use of solid CO; which is produced in freezing tubes arranged in bore-holes. The tubes are connected to a vacuum pump which draws off CO2 gas and delivers it to a compressor where it is compressed and liquefied for return to the tubes and re-evaporation, solid CO2 being formed in the tubes; subsequently the solid is allowed to gasify. Preferably gasifying is effected in alternate bore-holes while intermediate bore-holes are being supplied with the solid. If freezing is to be more intense, or to be effected only, at pre-determined points, stoppers may be suspended below such points and the pipes supplying liquid CO2 are brought down near to such points. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 (3) (a) states also that the solid CO2 may be produced separately and inserted as blocks into the freezing tubes. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
