[Class 47 (ii)] [Also in Groups VI and [XII A solution of large quantities of carbon-dioxide in water, for fire-extinguishing purposes, is obtained by discharging water under pressure, by means of a perforated pipe 5, into a mass of carbondioxide ice contained in a jacketted vessel 2 provided with a manometer 10 and safety valve 11. The water is stated to gasify and dissolve the carbon dioxide, the resulting solution being discharged by a pipe 6 with a nozzle 7. In a modification, the vessel 2 is spherical with a perforated inner wall. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 states also that the gas evolved by the slow sublimation of the carbon-dioxide ice may be collected and used for aerating liquids, preserving foodstuffs, or freezing water pipes to facilitate their repair, or for attacking fires at an early stage or providing an inert atmosphere in storage spaces for combustibles. Water under pressure can be supplied to one pipe 26 by a pipe 28, so that a solution of carbondioxide in water can be discharged by the corresponding nozzle 27 for such purposes as fire-extinguishing or quenching coke. The other pipe 26 is connected to a storage place 18 for combustibles. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
