Abstract
308,244. Surjaninoff, M. March 20, 1928, [Convention date]. Casings.-In a watertight motor having a protective envelope in the air gap forming an enclosure for the oil - immersed stator and having ends in the form of yielding undulated metal members, the envelope rests at its ends on supporting devices, such as cross-armed supports, which allow it to expand axially but prevent radial movements. In the form shown, the enclosing tube 2 in the bore is preferably magnetic and of the same thermally expansive character as the stator structure and is rigidly secured to the casing at one end by a ring 6. The other end is elastically connected to the casing either by means of a rubber diaphragm, as shown at 4, or an undulated metal diaphragm 9. A ring 7 having radial arms allows axial expansion of the tube 2 but prevents it from moving laterally. The lower bearing is not packed, with the result that the outer liquid can enter the air gap and pass therefrom to the air chamber at the upper part of the motor.
